Belgrave - Kelly Cahill Encounter - 104 x 123 cm
The Australian landscape has always carried its stories.
This painting is inspired by the Kelly Cahill encounter of 1993, when Cahill reported seeing a glowing craft and unusual figures near Belgrave in Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges.
The familiar bushland of the Dandenongs takes on another dimension through this strange encounter. I’m drawn to the way such stories become part of Australian folklore, connecting a recognisable landscape with mystery, imagination and the possibility of something unknown.
The painting explores how stories become woven into our sense of place
